An India Afternoon in Year 4

Year 4 celebrated the end of their project with an India afternoon. There was Bollywood Dancing, Indian Kite flying and a chance to try some Indian food. The children then shared their year's work with their parents.

Diolch i'r PTA! Thanks for organising the Picnic Tedi Twt for Nursery to Year 4. It started with 'Amser Story' led by Mrs Cullinan who read a Welsh story for us to perform. We practiced our thank you's when the PTA gave us 'losin, teisen a creision - Diolch!' After that Year 4 had prepared some Welsh stories with puppets to read to Year 2. Year 3 played 'un, dau, tri banana' with Year 1. Nursery and Reception joined in with Welsh nursery rhymes. Bendigedig!  

Fantastic Day for a Summer Fete

Author Mark Jones Shares Writing Tips with Year 2

Mark Jones author visited our Year 2 children on 2 July to share some writing tips. Mark writes fantasy books for children and in the past he has worked on television programmes and with Gerry Anderson who created Thunderbirds. Mark shared some of his book 'Captain Cutlass and his Rocket Ship' with the children and he explained how he gets his ideas for writing. He has invited the children to produce some of their own pirate stories which can be put up on the Fizzypopcreative web site (www.fizzypopcreative.co.uk).

 

 

 

 

WORLD DANCE CUP SUCCESS FOR CROESTY CHILDREN

On Friday 22nd June two of Croesty Primary’s children flew to Sitges in Barcelona to represent Wales. There were 6000 dancers from 53 countries all in competition for The Dance World Cup. Lauren  and Summer  danced from Sarah Burnell School of Dance Pencoed and were absolutely outstanding! Along side them were a number of other former Croesty pupils.

Lauren was placed 4th (in the World!) for her tap dance solo. Lauren was placed 17th for her duet with Summer and 12th for her duet with Daisie. A dance with older children earned a 7th place position.

Our congratulations go out to everyone from the Sarah Burnell School of Dance - it's a really great community dance group and it's fantastic to see success  coming from all of the hard work that the dance pupils put in. Lauren and Summer are clearly dancers to watch out for in the future.

147 children and young adults were recognised for their sport achievements in the Halo Sports Foundation Awards on the 28th June. Three of those receiving recognition were two former Croesty pupils and one current Croesty pupil. Emily is recognised for her work in water polo, she is a member of the Welsh squad. Shereen is a member of the Welsh rowing team and Bobby has fenced as part of the Welsh fencing team.

Eloise has had her design chosen by the school council as their new logo. Watch out for it on their letters and posters from now on.

Bridgend Festival of Learning / Gwyl Dysgu Pen y Bont

 

During this week Bridgend has held it's first Festival of Learning. There has been a vast programme of sharing excellent practice between schools which has involved teachers, headteachers and education professionals. Today it was the turn of the learners with two children from every School Council coming together to share their learning and discuss issues about wellbeing for young learners in Bridgend.

Croesty Primary School had a stand which explained how our meaningful work programme operates. Our stand was very popular - it seems our meaningful work programme is a little unique and lots of schools seem very keen to follow from our example. Our two School Councillors were excellent presenters and greatly impressed Professor Sally Holland the Children's Commissioner for Wales explaining how our meaningful work programme supports wellbeing within our school.

 

Huw Irranca-Davies Assembly Member for Pencoed officially opened Phase 2 of the Pencoed Safe Routes Scheme with the Mayor of Pencoed Mr John McCarthy. This scheme is really encouraging our children in Croesty Primary School to make an active journey to and from school which will have some very positive benefits for our children, the local community and our environment. Reducing car journeys helps to reduce pollution. Regular exercise guards against obesity and helps children to concentrate for longer with their learning.

Here in Pencoed we’ve got the only glow in the dark cycle path in Wales! There have been some fantastic improvements over the last two years for anyone wanting to make an active journey and it all started with our Croesty Primary School Travel Plan. Invited to the opening were the children of our Active Journeys Crew and any of the children who made a real contribution to our Travel Plan. We’re looking forward to Phase Three which will link the cycle path from Coychurch up to Croesty and Pencoed Comprehensive School.
